Attached to Technology?!

Kord Campbell makes me worried. 'Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God' is right. It's a harsh reality, reading all these technology stories. In Richtel's article there were many circumstances where it sounded like technology was taking over the world, or at least some people's lives. Technology proved to be some what of an addiction for some people. (I was just concise and took out the word really, like omg!) 'he craves the stimulation he gets from his electronic gadgets' 'deadly consequences' 'fractured thinking and lack of focus' Technology buffs these days are constantly connected and in many cases they are connected multiple ways at once. Mr. Campbell fell asleep and woke up to technology. If you think about it, it seems like this is the way many people function these days. Before you go to sleep, don't you check your cell phone, set an alarm, surf the internet? And when you wake up, don't you check your cell phone, mess with the alarm, surf the internet? I know me and Mr. Campbell aren't the only ones. But what I really wonder is what are these technologies really functioning as? Distractions or are they helping us. There are many things throughout this article that both support and and disregard technology as a good thing. With some technologies, people tend to be more efficient at finding information, develop better visual acuity, and improve reaction and the ability to pick out details amid clutter. On the other hand there are many more supporting arguments 'against' technology. Technology can change how people think and behave, interrupt work and family life, cause people to experience more stress, can change personalities, be less efficient juggling problems, and overall change people, not always for the better. Technology has so many different functions. Some people are more comfortable being always connected. Technology is sometimes a part of who people are and use it as a tool to be successful as in some professions. Some people are always thriving for something new and technology is ever changing and intriguing people. I think technology is tackle-able just like an addiction. There is alternatives, positives, negatives, and probably even professional help if needed. It all depends on what it means for you. For me it has many functions, like this school work I am completing right now, and staying connected via facebook or email like the other screens I have minimized. I think technology is an endless topic that must be specifically addressed for all of its purposes.
